Why purchase this Mint Error 2009 Sacagawea Dollar coin?
The Sacagawea Dollar was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 2000, its imagery honoring the young Shoshone woman who served as interpreter and guide during the 1804-1806 expedition of Lewis and Clark. In 2009, the design of the coin was modified to include an annually changing reverse design commemorating the legacy of Native Americans, and the relocation of the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM," the date and the Mint mark to the coin's smooth edge. This coin is missing the new edge inscription thanks to a famous Mint error. This missing edge lettering error affected only 0.00791% of the mintage!
Beautifully Detailed Imagery
The obverse depicts Sacagawea carrying her newborn son on her back, designed by Glenna Goodacre. Inscribed "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The reverse, by Norman E. Nemeth, features a Native American woman planting beans, corn and squash in the "Three Sisters" method, encircled by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "$1."
