Why add the 2009 $20 1 oz. Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle to your collection?
This 2009 $20 1 oz. Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle was encapsulated by industry leader the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and achieved the grade Mint State 69. Despite the mintage of 115,000, this is a hard to find coin.
In 2009 the US Mint issued this High Relief coin to showcase their technological prowess and to celebrate a masterpiece in coin design. This coin contains 1 oz. of .9999 pure gold. High relief coins have been quite popular with collectors ever since the original 1907 Saint-Gaudens $20 was struck, but circulation strikes typically exhibit problems in production and wear quickly. This has led to a scarcity of high quality specimens of these dramatic coins.
What is the design of this 2009 Double Eagle?
Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed this coin in response to President Theodore Roosevelt's call for a "Renaissance in American Coinage." The obverse features a standing Liberty, holding the Torch of Freedom overhead. She is backlit by the rays of the sun. In a nod to the original design "MMIX" notes the date, in Roman numerals. The reverse of the coin features the familiar and beautiful eagle in flight. The only departure from the original design is the phrase "In God We Trust" over the sun at the bottom of the coin.
Mint State 69 is a collector grade for coins that exhibit superior eye appeal.
