Why order this Burnished 2008-W Silver Eagle from the Annual Dollar Coin Set?

Issued as part of the Annual Dollar Coin Set, this Silver Eagle was struck on a burnished blank, which gives it a unique look that many fans of its bullion counterpart love. The coin was struck at the West Point Mint from one ounce of .999 fine silver and bears a "W" mint mark on the reverse. Notably, the image on this page is not a stock photo. You will receive the exact coin shown above.

Patriotic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman

The obverse of this coin was taken from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar, which was issued from 1916-1947. Liberty steps confidently toward the left side of the coin while holding laurel and oak branches, which symbolize civilian and military honors, in her left hand. She extends her right hand above the morning sun, as though presenting it to the holder.

The reverse features John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. A union shield is at the center. It is guarded by an eagle that holds arrows, which symbolize military readiness, in one talon and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in the other. The bird also holds a ribbon in its beak. An inscription on the ribbon reads, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). Thirteen stars, which symbolize the original states, are arranged above the bird's head in a triangular formation.

Well Struck MS68

This coin received a Mint State 68 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). To qualify for that grade, a coin must be very sharply struck.
