Why add this Mint State 69 2008-W Burnished $5 Gold Eagle to your collection?
This 2008-W Burnished $5 Gold Eagle achieved the high collector grade of Mint State 69 from the third party grading experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). This "Uncirculated" finish example was struck at the West Point Branch of the U.S. Mint. The coin itself is a legal tender $5 face value U.S. coin with an actual gold weight of 1/10 oz. Introduced in 1986, the Gold Eagles are struck on 22-karat pure gold rounds.
Old and new designs combine to create a classic
The obverse of the coin features the full figure of Lady Liberty, striding forward with confidence. She carries the Torch of Freedom in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She is backlit by the rays of the sun. This majestic image was repurposed from the world famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens circulating $20 gold piece design. The reverse image was conceived of and executed by Miley Busiek. The reverse depicts a nesting family of American Bald Eagles, with the male returning.
High collector grade and Uncirculated collector finish.
Mint State 69 coins are excellent additions to any collection. These examples are fully struck with abundant Mint luster and superior eye appeal. The Numismatic "Burnished" or Uncirculated finish is the result of the special preparation that the planchets receive prior to striking.
