Why purchase this Mint Error - Missing Edge Lettering 2008 John Quincy Adams Presidential Dollar?
The US Mint's Presidential Dollars Series honored the country's Commanders in Chief from 2007-2016. Each coin featured an American President. This one is of particular interest to history buffs due to the fascinating legacy of John Quincy Adams. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that J.Q. Adams was elected President by the House of Representatives following a controversial Electoral College vote. He was also the only President to serve in the House of Representatives after serving as President. This piece is an error in that it lacks the edge lettering that was supposed to be struck onto it.

A portrait of President John Quincy Adams features on the obverse. His name, "JOHN QUINCY ADAMS," is inscribed along the rim above his effigy. Below are inscriptions of his ordinal place in the line of the presidency, "6TH PRESIDENT," and the years that he served in office, "1825-1829."
Don Everhart's reverse design shows the Statue of Liberty as seen from below. Liberty holds high her torch, a beacon of freedom that is recognized throughout the world. Next to her is an inscription of the coin's face value, "$1." A rim frame bears the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
