Why add the 2008 Bald Eagle Dollar Proof to your collection?

This 2008 Bald Eagle Dollar Proof was minted at the Nation's first Mint located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was available in proof and uncirculated finishes, and was one of a three-coin program that celebrated the recovery of the Bald Eagle species and the 35th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act. It was struck to proof quality on 90% pure silver planchet and is guaranteed by the U.S. Mint to contain .7734 oz. ASW. The proof version of the coin has a mintage of 294,601 units. This is a legal tender U.S. Silver Dollar.

An American symbol of freedom and strength

The obverse of this silver dollar features the Joel Iskowitz designed image of an adult Bald Eagle depicted in majestic flight. The design was engraved by sculptor Don Everhart. The reverse image of the coin is the Great Seal of the U.S. as it appeared from 1782 until 1841. The reverse design was sculpted by the U.S. Mint's Jim Licaretz.

Brilliant proof quality

The word "proof" is specifically about the coin's finish. Proof blanks are subject to specialized handling and preparation to ensure high-quality strikes. The dies are also polished. The coins are struck multiple times to impart the contrast "cameo" finish. The contrast finish is a quality marker for the finest proofs available.
