Why purchase this Proof 70 Ultra Cameo 2007-W Jamestown $5 Gold Commemorative Coin?

This $5 gold coin was issued as part of the U.S. Mint's modern commemorative program for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. It was struck in 2007 at the West Point Mint and has a proof finish. Like a classic $5 gold piece, this proof is 90% gold. There were 47,123 of these minted with a proof finish.

Iconic Jamestown Design

The design on the obverse is the work of John Mercanti. It features 2 of the most significant figures in the founding of Jamestown, John Smith and Powhatan.

The reverse displays a design created by Susan Gamble. This side shows the Jamestown Memorial Church, which is also inscribed along the bottom.

Proof 70 and Ultra Cameo from NGC

The experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) use a grading scale with a maximum of 70. When they examined this $5 gold commemorative, no flaws were found. That's why it received the grade of Proof 70. Since this coin also has great visual contrast, it was awarded the Ultra Cameo designation.
