2007-W 10th Anniversary $50 Reverse Proof Platinum Eagle PCGS PR70

In 2007, the U.S. Mint decided to make a 2-coin set celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the American Eagle Platinum Coin Program. It included the Mint's first Platinum Reverse Proof Coin in the series and limited the mintage to only 30,000 sets worldwide and also limited the sales to an astonishing one per household. They did this to ensure that it would have the broadest and fairest access for all who may be interested in acquiring this set. The set includes the traditional 1/2 oz platinum proof coin as well as an enhanced reverse proof coin. The enhanced reverse proof available for sale here, was not made like the typical reverse proof coins that are minted today - this inaugural version features a frosted background and a mirror like brilliant finish on the raised elements in contrast to frosted background design elements in order to enhance the entire image.

Mercanti which features the classic image of Lady Liberty, who symbolizes our steadfast devotion to vigilance and a tireless resolution to faithfulness and duty. It contains 15.560 grams of platinum - which translates to 0.5003 troy oz.

The reverse design of this fabulous coin features a design from the “United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Thomas Cleveland and engraved by United States Mint Medallic Sculptor Phebe Hemphill. “ This design is in celebration of the Executive Branch of our government and American Democracy. The design has a male eagle in flight representing freedom and adorning a shield that represents enforcement of laws in this country.

The inscriptions on the reverse of the coin include: "1/2 oz.," ".9995 platinum," "$50," "The United States of America," and "Freedom." The reverse of the coin also carries the "W" mintmark denoting production at the United States Mint at West Point.
