2007-W 1/4 oz. American Gold Eagle
One of the world’s most popular coins can be yours today when you purchase this $10 American Gold Eagle coin! First minted in the year 1986, this proof version of the famous bullion coin is of first-rate quality and definitely a great addition to any collection.
Proof coins are the highest quality coins the U.S. Mint has to offer and were made especially for collectors. The term "Proof" refers to the brilliant finish of the coins. To achieve this look, the coins go through a specific minting process. Highly polished blanks are struck at least 2 times by a specially cleaned die (all of which is handled by the Mint), which results in mirrored backgrounds and frosted, sculpted foregrounds.
The 2007-W Gold Eagle in NGC PF70
A good way to ensure the quality and genuineness of a coin is to have it graded by a trusted third party. This Gold Eagle from 2007 has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Each coin that is sent there undergoes rigorous examination looking for any and all post-production flaws. Proof coins are rated on a scale from 60-70, with 70 as the highest.
Another classification with proof coins has to do with the contrast of the background and foreground. There are a few different phrases that deal with that contrast: Brilliant proof, Cameo, Cameo +, and Ultra cameo (deep cameo). Ultra Cameo (UC) is the highest measure of contrast.
This $10 Gold Eagle received a PF70 (Proof 70) UC grade from NGC, so it is a very high quality coin with virtually no flaws when examined at up to 5x magnification. After the coin was examined it was put into a plastic protective case and labeled with the NGC label.
Design of the 2007-W Gold Eagle
The obverse design on the Gold Eagle is a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty. With a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, Lady Liberty is meant to represent the liberty and peace America brings to the world. This design has been famous since its first appearance on the 20 dollar Saint-Gaudens coin in 1907. The design includes the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "2007." There is also the mint mark "W" for the West Point Mint, where Gold Eagles are minted.
The reverse design is of a male eagle holding an olive branch flying over the nest of his mate and her hatchlings. It was designed by the sculptor Miley Busiek. Miley's work is mostly focused on patriotic, classical, and religious themes and she has been commissioned by many government departments and even some private collectors among others. The inscriptions are as follows: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD - 10 DOLLARS," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
This Proof Ultra Cameo $10 coin has a spectacular grade of NGC PF70, is 1/4 oz. of fine gold, and has a mintage of 46,189. Add this 2007 American Gold Eagle coin to your collection today!
