Striking President George Washington Design by Joseph Menna

Obverse: Joseph Menna designed a portrait of President George Washington for the obverse. The nation's first chief executive's name, "GEORGE WASHINGTON," arches over the image. Below are inscriptions of his ordinal place in line, "1ST PRESIDENT," and the years that he held the office, "1789-1797." Joseph Menna is the thirteenth Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

Reverse: On the reverse is a Statue of Liberty design that was sculpted by Don Everhart. The face value of the coin, "$1," is inscribed next to the figure. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," is inscribed along the rim.
