Why add this Proof Gold American Buffalo to your collection?

Introduced by the United States Mint in 2006, the American Gold Buffalo responded to the need for the U.S. Mint to produce a 24 karat gold coin with the express purpose to compete with other world mints that were producing .9999 gold bullion. The design of the coin was chosen to honor the classic design of the highly popular Type I Buffalo Nickel created by sculptor James Earle Fraser in 1913. The instantly popular coin has a reported 2006 proof mintage of 246,267. The coin is struck from 1 full Troy oz. of .9999 fine gold at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint.

The collector's favorite coin design re-born.

The obverse features Fraser's beautifully detailed Native American in profile, with inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2006," and "W." The American buffalo, named Black Diamond, from New York's Central Park Zoo in the early 1900's is featured on the reverse, surrounded by the coin's weight and purity, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "$50."

The 2006 American Gold Buffalo includes the first year of issue Original Mint packaging!

This incredible uncirculated proof 2006-W American Gold Buffalo exhibits a brilliant, full original mint luster; further enhanced with a stunning frosted finish against highly polished mirrored fields. The coin is presented in the complete original packaging with the U.S. Mint issued presentation box and Certificate of Authenticity.
