Why add this Reverse Proof 2006-P American Silver Eagle coin to your collection of precious metal treasures?
To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of its popular American Silver Eagle series, the U.S. Mint issued a celebratory 3-coin set in 2006. The Philadelphia Mint's contribution to the set was this reverse proof coin, which was issued exclusively in the set. The coin represents the first ever coin with a reverse proof finish to be released by the U.S. Mint.
Gorgeous Patriotic Imagery
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse wrapped in the folds of United States flag. She gracefully strides toward the sunrise while carrying an enormous cluster of oak and laurel branches, which are symbolic of strength and honor. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2006" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This personification of Liberty, credited to acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916.
Reverse: The reverse, crafted by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, features a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars above. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," along with the "P" Mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint. This is an example of the Type-1 style Silver Eagle reverse, which was minted from 1986 until mid-2021.
