This $5 2006 Gold Eagle comes from the twentieth-anniversary mintage of this popular bullion coin. This coin has 1/10 Troy oz. of gold and was struck from .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint. The 2006 mintage of the $5 Gold Eagle was 285,006. If you love anniversary coinage or modern government bullion, this piece is for you.

Exquisite Saint-Gaudens Design

This coin bears the famed Saint-Gaudens design on the obverse. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, it features Liberty at the center with her hair blowing in a strong wind as she faces the holder. She extends her burning torch of freedom with her right hand while holding an olive branch, which is symbolic of peace, off to her side. The rays of the rising sun in the background add majesty to the image. Along the rim are fifty stars, which represent the states, four more than were on the original double eagle.

A family of eagles is on the reverse. In Miley Busiek's design, the male eagle brings an olive branch as it prepares to rejoin its family in the nest, where its mate nestles their young.

Flawless Mint State 70

This coin has a perfect strike and lacks any post-production imperfections according to graders at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. That is evidenced by the fact that they awarded it their highest grade, Mint State 70.
