Gorgeous Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse is a continuing tribute to the powerfully patriotic Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin designed in 1916 by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. Lady Liberty is majestically depicted, draped in the folds of an American flag, while walking towards the rising sun. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2005." Mr. Weinman was an award-winning American artist of the early 20th century, whose architectural sculptures grace buildings such as the U.S. Supreme Court and Jefferson Memorial.
Reverse: The reverse features an eagle grasping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "W." This design, credited to currently retired 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, is known as the Type-1 heraldic eagle, which appeared on all release of the Silver Eagle series issued from 1986 until mid-1921.
