Why purchase this Mint State 70 First Flight Centennial Gold Commemorative?

This $10 2003-W Gold First Flight commemorates the hundredth anniversary of an event that man had dreamed about for centuries. Any collector who has a passion for innovation and trying new things would love to have this piece in their collection. Struck from .9000 gold at the West Point Mint, this coin is part of a mintage of just 10,009 pieces and has an actual gold weight of .2419 oz. It has a "W" Mint mark on the reverse.

Realistic Wright Brothers design by Donna Weaver

Donna Weaver designed the obverse of this coin, which features overlapping images of Orville and Wilbur Wright, whose names are inscribed under it. Both of the men are dressed in suits, and their shoulders are turned slightly away from the holder. The years of the flight and anniversary, "1903" and "2003," are inscribed to the right. Also included is an inscription that notes the event for which the coin was issued, "FIRST FLIGHT CENTENNIAL."

On the reverse is a familiar image of the first flight, which Orville took on their plane, the Wright Flyer. An eagle is shown with its wings spread above the plane. "TEN DOLLARS" is included on the bottom.

Perfect Mint State 70

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC) experts could not find a single imperfection on this piece. Accordingly, they gave it their highest grade, Mint State 70.
