Why Make This PF70 2003-P First Flight Proof Half Dollar the Next Addition to Your Collection?

The Wright brothers achieved the First Flight in 1903. To honor the 100th anniversary of this enormous achievement, the U.S. Mint struck a variety of First Flight commemoratives. The clad half dollar shown here was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It has a Proof finish. There were 109,710 of these minted.

The Wright Monument

The design on the obverse depicts the Wright Monument. This design was created by John Mercanti, who served as Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. The date and "WRIGHT MONUMENT" are at the bottom of the design.

The face value is on the reverse. It can be seen just below the Wright 1903 Flyer. One of the Wright brothers is in the plane while the other can be seen on the ground below. The Mint mark can also be found on this side.

NGC Certified PF70

To have this half dollar graded and encapsulated, it was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Their team of professionals found this specimen to be flawless and awarded it the grade of Proof 70.
