The 2002- W American Silver Eagle
The first ever American Silver Eagle was released in 1986 when the United States Mint began the American Eagle Coin program. Ever since that date coin collectors have watched as these coins became a mainstay in the coin collecting world, being one of the most collected coins around!
This coin showcases one of the most well-known designs in American coinage on its obverse. This design was created by Adolph A. Weinman, an American Sculptor, and it depicts Lady Liberty draped in an American Flag walking gracefully as the sun begins to rise. The inscriptions that accompany this design on the obverse of the coin include; “LIBERTY”, IN GOD WE TRUST”, and the year “2002”.
On the reverse of this coin you will find thirteen small stars in the shape of an upside down triangle; one representing each of the original colonies. At the tip of the triangle you will find a heraldic eagle in front of a shield. This design was created by the admirable John Mercanti. On the reverse of the coin you will also see an inscription of a small, “W”, which represents that this coin was minted at the West Point Mint. The other inscriptions you will find on the reverse of this coin include: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER”, “ONE DOLLAR”, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.
This 2002- W American Silver Eagle is not just among the many business strike silver eagles on the market, as it has been stuck to have a proof finish. With that said, upon viewing this coin you will see that it has been specially minted for collectors; bearing lightly frosted and profoundly detailed images on the coin that contrast beautifully with shiny, almost mirror like fields. This coin has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service, PCGS, as being a grade 70, which means it is safe to say that this coin has literally been struck to perfection!
