Why make this Proof 70 Ultra Cameo 2001-W $25 Proof American Gold Eagle the next addition to your collection?

The U.S. Mint offered the first coins of the American Gold Eagle series in 1986. This 1/2 oz. proof was struck in 2001 at the West Point branch of the Mint. Like other coins of the series, it is made of 22-karat gold. Mintage of this proof was low, there were only 23,240 of these struck.

Stunning American designs on obverse and reverse

The design on the obverse was originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It was first used for the Double Eagle. Liberty is shown holding her torch up while she holds an olive branch with her other hand.

The detailed work of Miley Busiek is displayed on the reverse. Some bald eagles are pictured in their nest as the other adult returns with a branch.

Perfect Proof 70 with Ultra Cameo from NGC

To have this coin graded and encapsulated, it was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). It was examined thoroughly, but no imperfections could be found. This is why it was awarded a perfect Proof 70 grade. It also received the Ultra Cameo designation for its exceptional visual contrast.
