Why buy this Half Roll of 20 1913-1938 Random Date Buffalo Nickels?

The Buffalo Nickel is a classic American coin that is recognizable by nearly everyone more than three quarters of a century since it was last minted for circulation. Its distinctly American designs pay homage to the nation's rich history. The original reverse design for the coin, however created a problem, as wear on the reverse quickly made the face value difficult to read. Accordingly, the coin was later altered to get rid of the raised mound around it. This roll of coins, all of which are in Good+ condition, is an attractive option for collectors who have an interest in America's numismatic history.

Featuring the Original Buffalo Design of James Earle Fraser

The coin's obverse, which was not altered for the Type II version of the coin, features a right-side profile of an elderly Native American man. Designed by James Earle Fraser, it is a composite portrait. He has well defined facial features and long hair that is braided and hangs down in front of his shoulders. Feathers at the back of his head make his ethnicity readily apparent to any to whom it was not already. The date, is inscribed on his shoulder along with an "F" for "Fraser," while "LIBERTY" is inscribed on the rim in front of his face.

Fraser also designed the reverse, where an American bison is rendered in left-side profile. Fraser's full use of the horizontal diameter of the coin helps to capture the creature's massive size. The model that Fraser used for his design has become an interested point of discussion among historians, and some are unconvinced that it was an animal known as "Black Diamond." "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the animal along the rim, while "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed above his back. The coin's face value, "FIVE CENTS," is inscribed at the bottom.
