Why add this flawless First Day of Issue 2-piece set of Type-2 2021 American Gold Eagle 1 oz. bullion coins to your collection?
The U.S. Mint has issued the American Gold Eagle series with a brand new design in 2021! The first ever modification to the series' design marks its milestone 35th anniversary. While the time-honored personification of Liberty will remain mostly unchanged on the obverse, the reverse will feature a new design. After a final farewell release of the Eagle Family (Type-1) in early 2021, the Mint has launched the Type-2 reverse, which showcases a single, portrait style, adult eagle.
Stunningly Detailed Gold Eagle Type-2 Imagery
Obverse: Lady Liberty is surrounded by fifty stars on the obverse. While holding an olive branch and a flaming torch, she steps onto a boulder near a spray of oak foliage, which symbolizes strength, honor and longevity. Behind her, stylized rays of sunlight appear above the U.S. Capitol Building. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and the artist's overlapping initials "ASG." The image replicates the obverse of the 1907 $20 Gold Double Eagle coin designed by acclaimed late 19th and early 20th century American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Legacy details to the Capitol Building, stars, torch and sun rays have been restored to the Type-2 design, adapted from the original bronze cast.
Reverse: An alert eagle is depicted on the reverse, in a close-up profile view, accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "50 DOLLARS" and "1 OZ. FINE GOLD." Arizona based, award-winning graphic designer Jennie Norris penned the gorgeous eagle portrait. The Type-2 Gold Eagle reverse is Ms. Norris' first coin design, after recently joining the U.S. Mint's Artistic Infusion Program.
