Sensational Type-2 Silver Eagle Imagery
Obverse: The allegorical figure of Lady Liberty that appears on the obverse is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Ms. Liberty is portrayed as a young woman wrapped in the American flag, as she casually strolls towards a new day's sun while cradling a cluster of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2022" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The "AW" monogram beneath the motto credits the magnificent patriotic image to Adolph A. Weinman, an acclaimed medallic and architectural sculptor of the early 20th century.
Reverse: An eagle is depicted on the reverse with an oak branch in its grip as it prepares to land. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "ONE DOLLAR," along with the "W" Mint mark of the West Point Mint. The Type-2 Eagle Landing graphic is the work of award-winning science illustrator and U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra. Ms. Damstra's vision of the national bird was brought to life by sculptor Michael Gaudioso, who has designed/sculpted more than forty coin and medal images since joining the Mint in 2009.
