Why add this magnificently minted First Day of Issue 2021 American Silver Eagle Type-1 and Type-2 coin set to your collection?
2021 was a historic year for the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series. After thirty-five years of issue with an unchanged design, the Mint launched the Type-2 eagle landing reverse and retired the classic Type-1 heraldic eagle graphic. The exciting change occurred mid-year, resulting in two different design styles for the Silver Eagle series to be issued with the same 2021 date.
- This is a highly collectible 2021 American Silver Eagle first and last set!
- One example of the final year of issue of the Type-1 style coin, and one inaugural release of the Type-2 coin is included in the set.
- Each bullion coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver with a 40.60 mm diameter.
- The Type-2 style coin features the introduction of an interrupted reeded edge, which was developed for added security.
- The perfectly graded set was awarded the prestigious First Day of Issue designation.
- The set is encapsulated in a two-coin holder with a specially designed, hand signed certification label.
Patriotic Silver Eagle Designs
Obverse: Each obverse features a rendition of Lady Liberty advancing towards the dawning sun, with the distinctive flag of the United States elegantly draped around her figure. She reaches out with her right arm in a welcoming gesture, while in her left arm she cradles an impressive bundle of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." This powerful personification of Liberty first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by acclaimed sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. Although the image has been struck on the Silver Eagle since its 1986 introduction, the Type-2 style represents the first time that the artist has been properly acknowledged, with the inclusion of the "AW" monogram beneath the motto.
Type-1 Reverse, minted 1986 until mid-2021: A heraldically posed eagle is centered on the reverse, with a cluster of arrows and an olive branch clutched in its talons. As an homage to the original colonies thirteen stars appear above. This design was created by award-winning sculptor/engraver John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint's currently retired 12th Chief Engraver. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Type-2 Reverse, launched in 2021: An eagle is depicted on the reverse, with its wings raised in preparation for landing, and an oak branch intended for its nest in its grip. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR." Renowned illustrator and U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra is credited with the creation of the Eagle Landing graphic. Ms. Damstra's design was brought to dramatic fruition by Michael Gaudioso, a member of the U.S. Mint's team of sculptor/engravers since 2009.
