These coins were first issued in 1986 and 2021 was the 35th anniversary of the series. Major anniversaries for this series usually come with some treats for collectors and the 35th was no exception. 2021 brought the first major design change with the introduction of the Type 2 reverse part way through the year. The set offered here includes two 2021 American Silver Eagles. Both Type 1 and Type 2 Silver Eagles were struck by the U.S. Mint in 2021, meaning this set contains one of the final Type 1 Silver Eagles to bear the original Heraldic Eagle reverse and one of the first Type 2 Silver Eagles that bears the new Eagle Landing reverse.
Type 1 and Type 2 Silver EaglesObverse: This side of both coins displays the classic Walking Liberty design, which was originally created by Adolph A. Weinman, and it first appeared on the half dollar in 1916. The Type 2 Silver Eagle includes his initials on the design, which makes it more similar to his original. Reverse: The most significant differences are on the reverse. This side of the Type 1 Silver Eagle shows John Mercanti's heraldic bald eagle design that has been used since the series began in 1986.
