Historic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse design was on the half dollar for over thirty years. Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty shows a flag-clad Liberty carrying laurel and oak branches as she extends her hand above the rising sun.
On the reverse is a design that John Mercanti created for the Silver Eagle. Modeling it off of the Great Seal of the United States, he shows the national bird, an eagle, guarding a union shield. Above the bird's head are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states.
Perfect PF70 UC FDI with Mercanti & Jones-Signed Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that both of these coins are in perfect condition as viewed under 5x magnification by awarding them their highest grade, Proof 70 (PF70). They also certified the coins as Ultra Cameos (UC), which means that both faces have particularly sharp contrasts between frosted devices and mirrored fields, and as First Day of Issues, a certification given only to coins that went through an exclusive submission process. Both labels were signed by former Chief Engravers of the U.S. Mint, one John Mercanti and the other Elizabeth Jones.
