They were encapsulated with the coveted John M. Mercanti & Elizabeth Jones hand-signed labels and qualified for the collectible First Releases (FR) designation. These examples were struck at the U.S. Mint's West Point branch on specially prepared 1 oz. .999 fine silver coin blank. The ASE series is the most collected and revered silver issue in Numismatic History.
Classic obverse and reverse designs
The obverse design used on the coin is the remarkable Walking Liberty depiction from Adolph A. Weinman's unequaled circulating half dollar. She is shown covering rocky, hazardous terrain as she spreads the American Ideals of success, strength and freedom. The reverse design is U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John M. Mercanti's Powerful Bald Eagle image.
