Why purchase this certified Centennial Anniversary set of 1921 and 2021 Morgan Silver Dollars?
The Morgan Silver Dollar was annually issued by the U.S. Mint from 1878 until 1904, then returned for a final, single year of issue in 1921. The coin's imagery is notably one of the most recognizable designs in the history of U.S. coinage, created by the coin's namesake, George T. Morgan, the seventh Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Morgan Dollar series' conclusion, the Mint has revived the timeless design for a 2021 dated celebratory issue of the coin. This exciting set includes two Morgan Silver Dollar coins minted with the same design, both struck at the Philadelphia Mint exactly one hundred years apart: a final year of issue 1921 coin and First Day of Issue designated example of the 2021 centennial anniversary release.
Magnificent Morgan Dollar Imagery
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse as a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap, which symbolizes freedom and the pursuit of liberty. "LIBERTY" is inscribed upon the band of the cap, with sprigs of wheat, cotton and oak tucked into its folds. The portrait is encircled by thirteen stars and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (out of many, one), with the date of issue "1921" or "2021" positioned below.
Reverse: An eagle is featured on the reverse, clutching an olive branch and three arrows. The national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed between the eagle's outstretched wings, while a ribbon-tied laurel wreath curves below. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the image.
