Why add the 1999-W 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle $5 (Unfinished Proof Dies) ANACS MS69 to your collection?

This 1999-W 1/10 oz. Gold American Eagle $5 error coin can be yours today! It was graded at the solidly collectible Mint State 69 level by America's oldest grading company, ANACS. It has a unique appearance due to being struck with unfinished proof dies, with that information printed on the label. The coin is guaranteed by the U.S. Government to contain 1/10 oz. of gold bullion. The series is struck on .9167% pure gold planchets and remains quite popular with collectors and bullion enthusiasts. This issue was struck at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint.

Resonant design

The obverse design is borrowed from the Saint-Gaudens' $20 Gold "Double Eagle" circulating coin. The image is Lady Liberty holding a torch overhead and an olive branch at her side. The reverse features nesting eagles. The image was designed by Mint engraver Miley Busiek.

Popular series, popular error

1999 saw a modest number of American Gold Eagle coins struck with dies that had been intended to strike proof coins. This population of coins does bear the numismatic W mint mark but the polishing of the dies was not finished properly, thus creating one of the more sought after errors of the series. This example is in the solidly collectible Mint State 69 grade.
