The American Gold Eagle is one of the most widely known gold coins being struck today. Each coin in this series is made of 22-karat gold and is guaranteed by the U.S. Mint to contain the stated amount of gold. This Gold Eagle was struck in 1998 at the West Point branch of the Mint. It has an actual gold weight of 1/2 Troy oz. and a proof finish. Mintage of this coin was a bit high compared to other years it was offered, as there were 169,029 of them struck.

Stunning patriotic obverse and reverse

The obverse shows a detailed depiction of Liberty. She can be seen carrying her torch and an olive branch with the sun's rays and our Capitol building in the background. This design was originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

The reverse shows a bald eagle as it returns to the family nest. This design features an impressive level of detail, it was created by Miley Busiek.
