Iconic John F. Kennedy design by Gilroy Roberts
On the obverse of this coin is Gilroy Roberts's left-side effigy of President John F. Kennedy. The youthful leader bears a somber look.
Frank Gasparro's reverse image bears may similarities to the Great Seal of the U.S. It features an eagle guarding a union shield. In its beak, it holds a ribbon with the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM," while in its talons it holds an olive branch and arrows. Thirteen stars are arranged above its head, while fifty encircle the entire image inside the rim inscriptions.
