Why purchase this pristine 1998-P American Silver Eagle proof coin?
The American Silver Eagle has been a popular choice among numismatic collectors since the series was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1986.
Imagery Honoring Liberty and Freedom
Obverse: The obverse features Lady Liberty striding towards the rising sun draped in the American flag, with the word "LIBERTY" curving overhead. Additional inscriptions include "1998" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This patriotic personification of Liberty first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by Adolph A. Weinman, an acclaimed medallic and architectural sculptor of the early 1900s.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle is illustrated on the reverse, grasping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, beneath thirteen stars. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "P." The design is an example of the artistry of John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint's 12th Chief Engraver.
