Why add this 1997-W Proof Gold American Eagle to your collection?

The $5 Proof Gold Eagle of 1997 experienced low mintage numbers, due to the introduction of the new member of the American Eagle Bullion family that year, the Platinum Eagle. Having a reported mintage of just 34,977 coins, this Proof was struck from 1/10 Troy oz. of .9167 fine gold and measures 16.51mm in diameter. The American Gold Eagle has been the official gold bullion coin of the United States since 1986, produced at the U.S. Mint's West Point facility of 22Karat gold, carrying the "W" Mint mark.

Extraordinary detailed imagery

Designed by Miley Busiek, the reverse features a magnificent bald eagle in flight, an olive branch held tightly in its talons; his mate and young hatchlings comfortably settled in a beautifully detailed nest in the foreground awaiting his return. The obverse portrays Lady Liberty encircled by fifty stars, designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the 1907 Double Eagle. She confidently advances forward, carrying a torch aflame in her right hand and olive branch in her left. "LIBERTY" and "1997" are inscribed.

Professionally graded by the NGC

This magnificent $5 Proof Gold Eagle is graded a nearly perfect Proof 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The Ultra Cameo designation refers to the remarkable quality of frosted and highly polished mirrored surfaces struck onto the coin.
