Why Choose This PF70 UC 1997-W $25 ½ oz. Proof Gold Eagle?

The proof version of the American Gold Eagle is one of the most collectible gold coins being minted today. This 1997 ½ oz. proof Gold Eagle was struck at the West Point Mint. It is made of 22 karat gold and has an actual gold weight of ½ Troy oz. The inscriptions verifying the weight and purity can be found on the reverse. Also located on the reverse is a family of bald eagles. This design was created by Miley Busiek. The obverse shows Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Liberty. There aren’t many 1997-W $25 proof Gold Eagles. This was a low mintage year, only 26,344 were struck.

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, NGC, was chosen to examine this 1997-W ½ oz. proof Gold Eagle and assign a grade to it. The experts at NGC use a 70 point grading scale with 70 being the highest possible grade. This 1997-W $25 proof Gold Eagle is flawless, it received a perfect PF70 grade and the Ultra Cameo designation.
