The American Eagle Program

The American Eagle coin program started back in the year 1986 and has become a mainstay in the world of coin collectors! Each American Silver Eagle bears what many believe to be the most beautiful design to ever exist in American Coinage, and contain 1 Troy oz of.999 fine silver. The purchase of this piece is not only a great way to add silver to a coin collection, but also an opportunity to obtain a coin that is easily recognizable as a classic, must-have piece to many in the coin collecting world.

This 1997-P American Silver Eagle bears on it what is said to be one of the most famed designs to ever exist in American coinage! This design is found on the obverse of the coin and was designed by the pronounced Adolph A. Weinman, an American sculptor. The design depicts Lady Liberty who is wrapped in an American flag, walking gracefully as the sun rises over a ridge and its rays begin to fill the sky. On the reverse of this coin you will find a design created by the admired John Mercanti that depicts thirteen small stars in the shape of a triangle that is faced downward. Each small star represents one of the original colonies, and at the tip of the triangle shape that they form you will find an image of a heraldic eagle behind a shield. On the reverse of the coin you will also see an inscription of a small, “P”, which represents that this coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint.

This 1997 Silver Eagle was struck using a complex minting process used specially for collector coins! The use of this different minting process creates an impressive proof finish on the coin to accompany the classic American Silver Eagle design. With that said, this coin has also been denoted as a deep cameo (DCAM) by the Professional Coin Grading Service, PCGS, due to the coins deeply frosted devices and lettering that contrasts with the fields on the coin. These many special traits come together to make for a mirror like proof finish that adds to the already spectacular 1997 Proof American Eagle coin.

Why add this 1997 proof 69 silver eagle to your collection?

This 1997 American silver eagle has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service to be a 69, which means it is just below being a perfect Silver Eagle with nearly no post production imperfections at 5x magnification!
