Why Purchase the 1996-D Olympics Tennis Silver Dollar Graded MS69 by NGC?

To mark the Centennial Olympic Games held in Atlanta in 1996 the U.S. Mint issued the single largest commemorative coin program ever, spanning 32 coins over the course of 1995 and 1996. This coin, which honors the sport of tennis, is part of that series. It is fitting that the obverse depicts a female tennis player in action since U.S. women took home several gold medals during the games. Tennis has been part of the Olympics since 1900, but as a result of various disputes among Olympic Committee members, the sport was removed for more than 60 years and returned permanently in 1988. Because only 15,983 of these coins were sold in uncirculated condition, this version of the coin commands a strong premium today as one of the lowest mintage modern commemorative coins.

NGC has graded a mere 745 of these coins, and 88% of them are graded Mint state 69. Since Mint state 70 examples are hard to come by and more expensive than mint state 69 coins, you should strongly consider adding this piece to your modern commemorative collection. Numismatic experts have noted frequently that this coin, along with the others in this series with mintages below 16,000, have good long-term potential because of their low mintages.

This 1996-D Olympics - Tennis Commemorative Silver Dollar NGC MS69 is proudly minted by the U.S. Mint. The United States Mint was founded in 1792 and manufactures circulating, collectible, and bullion coinage.
