Why add this perfectly graded $5 Gold Proof commemorating the Centennial Anniversary of the Civil War Battlefields preservation to your collection?

The Gettysburg National Military Park was established in 1895, in an effort to restore, preserve and protect the nearly four thousand acres of land in Pennsylvania upon which the historic Civil War 1863 Battle of Gettysburg was fought. This proof honoring the 100th Anniversary of the foundation of the National Park was struck by the West Point Mint from 0.242 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold, with a final reported mintage of 55,246. Surcharges collected by the U.S. Mint in the sale of the proof were donated to the Civil War Trust for the preservation of battlefields of historic significance.

Patriotically Themed Design

The obverse illustrates a bugler mounted on horseback, a design created by Don Troiani, an American artist known for his incredibly accurate battle scene depictions. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "1995" and "W."

An eagle is featured on the reverse, perched on a striped shield, grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows. The design by Alfred Maletsky is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "FIVE DOLLARS."
