1995-S Civil War 50c NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo – Civil War Battlefield Preservation

The 1995-S Civil War Battlefields Half Dollar was issued to help raise money for Civil War battlefield preservation. The one listed here comes NGC certified PF69 Ultra Cameo (UC) – a top grade coin with a “perfect” contrast between its matte-like, frosted devices and mirrored fields.

This US commemorative coin was issued during a time when a gallon of gas cost $1.05, 1 lb. of bacon $1.92 and the average cost of a new car was $16,950.

Design of the 1995-S Civil War Battlefield Preservation Proof Half Dollar

The obverse of this 1995-S half dollar was created by no one else than the renowned American realist painter, Don Troiani. It depicts a battlefield drummer in full Civil War uniform. The hardship of war is written all over his face. He is certainly not in a happy place. This is exactly why Troiani is well-known for his extremely accurate military and historical paintings.

Troiani is the same gentleman who designed the obverse of the 1995-S Civil War Battlefield Preservation Silver Dollar – a depiction of two Civil War soldiers in a captivating scene on the battlefield.

Inscriptions on the obverse include: “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the year “1995” and the “S” mintmark of the US Mint facility at San Francisco.

The reverse of this US commemorative coin depicts a cannon on the battlefield as created by T. James Ferrell. Inscriptions on the reverse include: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ENRICHING OUR FUTURE BY PRESERVING THE PAST” and its “HALF DOLLAR” face value.
