Why buy this 50 Francs 1994 Switzerland Silver Proof Shooting Thaler

This 1994 50 Francs Switzerland Silver Proof Shooting Thaler was issued to commemorate the country's annual Shooting Festival. The celebration of marksmanship from the country that gave the world William Tell has been celebrated in coin from 1842, while the modern era of Thaler coins began in 1984. This coin was struck from .900 silver and is part of a mintage of 2,200 pieces.

Stunning Helvetia design

The obverse of the coin features Helvetia, a figure who represents Switzerland on coins in the same way that Liberty represents the United States. She stands at the center on the shores of a lake holding a crossbow in her right hand and balancing a shield that bears a fasces with her left. Two sailboats capture the wind in the background. Inscriptions along the rim together read, "ST. GALLER KANTONALSCHUTZENFEST 1994."

On the reverse, a bear sits as a slight angle to the holder. He holds a large Swiss flag complete with its bold cross. The face value of the coin, "50 FR," is inscribed at the bottom, while rim inscriptions read, "EINLOSBAR AM SCHUTZENFEST."
