Featuring the Patriotic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse bears Adolph Weinman's patriotic Walking Liberty design. Liberty carries laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively, and wears a Phrygian cap. The cap identifies her as a freed slave. Obverse inscriptions note her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "1994." Adolph Weinman is among the most respected numismatic designers in US history. His work includes the Walking Liberty half dollar, the Mercury dime, and commemorative medals for the armed forces.
Reverse: John Mercanti designed the reverse, modelling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top. Below, an eagle protects a union shield whole holding arrows and an olive branch, symbols of military readiness and peace. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim. John Mercanti is the most prolific designer in the history of the US Mint. He also served as the mint's Chief Engraver.
