Why purchase this 1993-D Jefferson silver dollar in NGC PF69 UC?

This 1993-D Thomas Jefferson commemorative silver $1 has been graded Proof 69 with ultra cameo contrast by NGC. Thomas Jefferson, a seminal figure in American history and one of the founding fathers, was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and served as the third president of the United States. To mark the 250th anniversary of his birth in 1743 the U.S. Mint issued a silver dollar in proof and uncirculated condition with a maximum mintage of 600,000 coins.

The coin proved to be very popular and sold out of the entire authorized mintage with 332,891 proofs sold and 266,927 mint state coins sold. The obverse features a side-facing profile of Jefferson that is based on a painting by Gilbert Stuart, while the reverse depicts Jefferson’s estate, Monticello, in Virginia.

NGC has graded 2,530 of these coins, and 95% of them were graded Proof 69 like the coin for sale. Only 1% was graded proof 70, and those scarce coins are beyond the reach of most collectors’ budgets. This Proof 69 example would be a great addition to any collection and is fine tribute to one of America’s greatest presidents and historical figures.
