Why order this Gold 1/2 oz. Proof $25 1993-P Eagle?

This 1993-P Gold 1/2 oz. $25 Eagle is part of a mintage of just 43,819. Its "P" Mint mark, which appears on the obverse, indicates that it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Struck from .9167 fine gold, this coin is an attractive early issue of the Gold Eagle Proof.

Extraordinary Saint-Gaudens Design

The obverse of this Gold Eagle Proof features the iconic design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Named for him, it features Liberty striking a confident pose as she holds her burning torch of Liberty high. Off to the side, she holds an olive branch in her left hand. A miniature rendering of the Capitol Building is in the lower left, and the entire image is set against a morning backdrop, with the sun's rays rising from the horizon. The original design had forty-six stars along the rim, but four more have been added to account for the newest states.

Miley Busiek created the reverse design. A male eagle bearing an olive branch in its talons returns to its family, which waits in the nest below.

Virtually Perfect Proof 69 Ultra Cameo

This coin earned the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC) second highest grade, Proof 69, which means that it has a flaw or two that are invisible to the naked eye. NGC also credited it for the stark contrasts between frosted devices and mirrored fields by certifying it as an Ultra Cameo.
