1992-S 1 oz. Proof Silver Eagle
The 1992-S 1 oz. Silver Eagle Proof coin is part of an annual series released by the United States Mint. First released in 1986, the Silver Eagle series was created in response to a need to utilize silver from the National Defense Stockpile. The Silver Eagle quickly became one the most popular bullion coins in the United States as it is an accessible collectible with precious metal investment benefits that uses a beloved patriotic design.
The 1992-S Silver Eagle Proof contains a minimum of 1 oz. of 99.9% pure silver and received a superior rating of PF69 from the NGC. The Proof condition offers the advantage of limited quantities and incomparable quality.
Design of the 1992 Proof Silver Eagle
The obverse design was taken from the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, originally used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin of the United States from 1916 to 1947. Always a public favorite and one of the most beloved designs of modern United States coinage (silver or otherwise), it was revived for the Silver Eagle decades later. Lady Liberty is shown draped in an American Flag, walking gracefully as the sun rises over a ridge.
The reverse is a 1986 design by John Mercanti that portrays a heraldic eagle behind a shield echoing the Great Seal of the United States. It shows the eagle grasping an olive branch in its right talon with arrows in its left talon adorned by thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Colonies. The reverse is inscribed with the phrases “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” along with the “S” Mint mark.
American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins are affordable investments, beautiful collectibles, thoughtful gifts and memorable incentives or rewards. As legal tender, they're the only silver coins whose weight and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government. Furthermore, they are an attractive investment as they may be placed in an IRA account. The consecutive releases, the investment advantages and the patriotic design appeals to both experienced and novice coin collectors and make ideal commemorative gifts.
