Why buy this $10 1992-P American Gold Eagle?

This piece is one of 46,269 of its kind minted in 1992. It bears a “P” Mint mark, which indicates that it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is .9167 fine and has 1/4 Troy oz. of gold.

Who designed the Gold Eagle and what does it represent?

Miley Busiek created the design that is on the Gold Eagle’s reverse. The design consists of two parts, with a male eagle in a landing position above and the female nestling her young in the nest below. The male bears a symbol of peace, an olive branch, in his talons. On the obverse is the highly acclaimed design of Augustus St. Gaudens, which first appeared on the double eagle. Liberty extends her torch, a symbol of freedom, in front of her and an olive branch to the side. In the background, the sun’s rays rise from the horizon.

What does Proof 70 Ultra Cameo from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation mean?

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) grades coins Proof 70 only if they appear perfect under 5x magnification. The Ultra Cameo designation indicates that both the reverse and obverse of the coin have strong contrasts between fields that are deeply mirrored and devices that are heavily frosted.
