Why add this Mount Rushmore Silver Dollar to your collection?

In 1991, the U.S. Mint issued the Mount Rushmore Silver Dollar to honor the 50th anniversary of the national monument. Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the enormous granite sculpture featuring four U.S. Presidents was completed in 1941 by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln. This Silver Dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint from 0.7736 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver, with a final reported mintage of 133,139.

Spectacular detailed imagery

The obverse features a classic view of Mount Rushmore depicting the busts of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, a laurel wreath and ribbon below inscribed "IN GOD WE TRUST." Designed by Marika H. Somogyi and sculpted by Chester Young Martin, the obverse includes the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY," "MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL," and "1991."

The reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, combines the images of a sunburst and the outline of America, with a star and "SHRINE OF DEMOCRACY" at Mount Rushmore's location; the Great Seal of the United States in the foreground. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "ONE DOLLAR" complete the design.
