Why add this 1991-P $5 Gold Eagle NGC PF70 UC to your collection?

This 1991-P $5 Proof Gold Eagle is a beautiful option for those who wish to add an early piece from the proof series to their collections. The coin is one of just 70,334 of its kind. The reverse of the design features a family of birds that give the coin its name. The top half of the image features a male eagle bearing an olive branch and preparing to land in its nest. Below, a mother eagle looks at the olive branch as she cares for their nestlings. For most collectors, though, it is the obverse image, which was originally designed by Augustus St. Gaudens, that is especially appealing. In that image, Liberty faces the holder and extends her torch of freedom toward him. To her left, she holds an olive branch. The image is set against a backdrop of the rays of the rising sun, and the Capitol Dome of the United States Capitol appears in the lower left. Along the edge are fifty stars, one for each state. The year of mintage is included in Roman numerals on the obverse, reading, “MCMXCI.” The coin has an actual gold weight of 1/10 Troy oz. and is .9167 pure.
