Why Choose This Proof 70 Ultra Cameo 1990-W 1 oz. Proof Gold Eagle?

The $50 proof Gold Eagle offered here was struck at the West Point Mint in 1990. It has an actual gold weight of 1 Troy oz. The first coins of this series were released in 1986. The proof version of the Gold Eagle is much more collectible than its standard bullion counterpart. Compared to other 1 oz. proof Gold Eagles, mintage of this coin was moderate with 62,401 pieces.

Saint-Gaudens and Busiek

Liberty can be seen on the obverse of this proof. The mintmark is on this side and the date is displayed in Roman numerals. While this design has had slight changes, it was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

The work of Miley Busiek is displayed on the reverse. This design features a stunning level of detail. It shows a family of bald eagles as one of the adults is about to land in the nest. The actual gold weight and face value are at the bottom.

Flawless Proof 70 Ultra Cameo from NGC

The experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) examined this coin very carefully when it was submitted for grading. They could not find any flaws, so it was awarded the grade of Proof 70. This is the highest grade that can be given to a proof coin. The Ultra Cameo designation was also awarded because of this specimen's visual contrast.
