1989 United States Mint set in the original mint packaging

Like the other sets that immediately preceded this one, this set contains a total of ten coins plus two mint tokens, packaged in two flat cellophane packages, one for each mint. Popularity of these sets was rather steady during the late 1980s sustaining a collector demand of nearly two million sets per year. Even with that, the time that has elapsed since the original issue of this set has allowed for a large number of original sets to be broken up into collections, which means the surviving number of sets today is far lower than the quantity originally packaged.

Overall the set includes 10 coins: 2 Lincoln cents, one each from Philadelphia and Denver, 2 Jefferson Nickels, one each from Philadelphia and Denver, 2 Roosevelt dimes, one each from Philadelphia and Denver, 2 Washington Quarters, one each from Philadelphia and Denver, and 2 Kennedy half dollars, one each from Philadelphia and Denver. It also contains a P and D mint token, minted using cent blanks, within the packaging.

The packaging itself is a flat cellophane sheet for the coins of each mint, with the Denver sheet bordered in red and the Philadelphia sheet bordered in blue. The entire set comes within an envelope with a graphic design on its outside.

PLEASE NOTE: This U.S. Mint product was not purchased by us directly from the Mint but from collectors like you and other dealers. We make every effort to make sure the packaging is acceptable and that the coins are problem free. You may, however, receive coins that have toning or haze. This occurs naturally over time and is common to see. There may be some imperfections in packaging due to the sets leaving one collection to go into another. Please keep this in mind when examining your sets.
