Why add this 1989 Philadelphia struck 1/2 oz. American Gold Eagle Proof to your collection of precious metals?

The United States Mint's American Gold Eagle series was introduced in 1986, making this 1989 dated example one of those minted in the series' fourth year of production. Imagery of the series is patriotically themed, featuring the female personification of Liberty and eagles representing freedom. Having a final reported mintage of 44,798 this stunning 1989 Gold Eagle Proof was superbly struck at the Philadelphia Mint from 1/2 Troy oz. of .9167 fine gold measuring 27 mm in diameter.

Historic Depiction of Lady Liberty

The obverse features a magnificent reproduction of Lady Liberty confidently walking forward carrying a flaming torch and olive branch, as struck on the $20 Gold Double Eagle designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. The image is encircled by fifty stars, "LIBERTY," Philadelphia's "P" Mint mark and "MCMLXXXIX" (1989 in Roman Numerals).

Designed by Miley Busiek, the reverse depicts a family of eagles, the male in protective flight over his nesting mate and young, with an olive branch in its grasp.

Virtually Flawless Proof 69 Deep Cameo

This 1989-P 1/2 oz. Gold American Eagle Proof is graded a nearly perfect Proof 69 by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The $25 coin also earned the designation Deep Cameo (DCAM), referencing the exceptionally sharp contrast between the highly polished mirrored backgrounds and finely frosted design elements.
