1988 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set
This 1988 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set features ten coins and two mint tokens, one from the Philadelphia Mint and one from the Denver Mint. The coins are separated into two cellophane flat packs, the one with the blue border holding the coins from the Philadelphia Mint and the one with the red border holding the coins from the Denver Mint. While some of these coins may suffer from haze or toning, they have never been in circulation.
Designs of the 1988 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set
All of the coins in this 1988 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set bear the images of United States Presidents on the obverse. The coins included in each set include the Lincoln cent, the Jefferson nickel, the Roosevelt dime, the Washington quarter, and the Kennedy half dollar. On four of the coins, the president portrayed faces to the left side of the coin. Lincoln is the only exception. Like Jefferson’s image, Lincoln’s includes his shoulders and runs to the rim of the coin. The other three have just their head and neck shown. The word “LIBERTY,” year of mintage, “1988,” mint mark, “P” for Philadelphia and “D” for Denver, and national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” appear on the obverse of each coin.
Like the obverse, the reverses of these coins also have several similarities. These include inscriptions of the motto from the Great Seal of the United States, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” (From many, one), the name of the coins’ issuing nation, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the face value. Two of the coins depict buildings that are associated with the presidents on the obverse. In the case of the cent, that’s the Lincoln Memorial, and in the case of the nickel, it’s Jefferson’s Virginia home, Monticello. The quarter and half dollar both depict an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, though the designs of that image are different. The dime features a torch, an olive branch, and an oak branch, symbols of liberty, peace, and strength.

PLEASE NOTE: This U.S. Mint product was not purchased by us directly from the Mint but from collectors like you and other dealers. We make every effort to make sure the packaging is acceptable and that the coins are problem free. You may, however, receive coins that have toning or haze. This occurs naturally over time and is common to see. There may be some imperfections in packaging due to the sets leaving one collection to go into another. Please keep this in mind when examining your sets.
