The five-coin 1988 Proof Set, which features the Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel and the Lincoln Cent, had low mintage, but did not fall below the 3 million mark.
The packaging for this set is the standard set used for a few year prior. Each coin had an individual spot in a plastic holder that was then placed between two pieces of plastic and covered with a purple box that reads, "United States Mint Proof Set."

The U.S mint began releasing annual proof sets in 1936 that included one proof of each coin that was struck for circulation that year. The practice continues to this day with many collectors considering the annual proof set a ‘must get’ every year.
