Why add the Proof 69 Ultra Cameo 1988-P $25 Gold Eagle to your collection?

This third year of issue 1988-P $25 Gold Eagle achieved the Proof 69 Ultra Cameo after having been examined by the experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The 1/2 oz. AGW 91.67% pure gold coin was struck at the Nation's workhorse Mint at Philadelphia. This issue has a mintage of 76,528 coins. Interestingly, this coin has the year 1988 rendered in Roman Numerals, as was the practice until the issues from 1991 were rendered in Arabic Numerals.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens, design genius

The obverse of the coin features a recycled image used originally in 1907. President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens to revamp the long-running designs of the U.S. Coinage. The image is thought to be the most beautiful depiction of Lady Liberty stuck on gold coinage in the U.S. She is shown standing, backlit by the sun as she holds the Torch of Enlightenment. The reverse image is sculptor Miley Busiek's family of bald eagles with the male eagle flying over head.

Proof 69 Ultra Cameo for your collection

Ultra Cameo proofs have the coveted contrast between the raised design areas and the flat design areas on a coin. They are some of the most attractive coins available. These examples offer great value and spectacular eye appeal.
